 Historical Overview

Pemco of New Mexico, Inc. was started in 1965 by Jack Poynor and three other partners from Odessa, Texas.  Two years after the business began operations, Jack and his wife, Sylvia, became the sole owners.  In 1979, Jack offered his son-in-law, Garry A. Buie, a partnership in the business.  In 2005, after the passing of Jack, Garry and his wife, Cynthia, became the sole owners.

When Garry first started working at Pemco, he did a variety of jobs.  Jack believed that Garry should learn all aspects of the business.  He started Garry out on the steamer and sandblaster.  He had to be the parts chaser and mechanic in training.  He learned how to weld and later he moved into a management position.  All of this on-the-job training prepared Garry for the future as the company’s President and CEO.

Garry grew up in Alamogordo, New Mexico where he graduated from high school.  He received a BS in Government from NMSU in 1974.  He married Cynthia Poynor in June, 1975.  Garry and Cynthia moved to Hobbs, NM from Midland, Texas where Garry had been a Loss Control Specialist with United General Insurance Agency.

I enjoy owning my own business in Lea County because of the people that I work with on a daily basis, whether it is my employees or my customers.  My employees are the best!!!  They are my family and I try to treat them with respect and appreciation every day.  If I did not have good employees, then Pemco of New Mexico, Inc would not be the great company that it is today.  I have good customers who continue to give me the opportunity to give them the best service that I can.  The local suppliers have been there for us through the good and bad times of the oilfield.

Our company is an oilfield repair and manufacturing firm.  We refurbish and remanufacture oilwell servicing equipment.  We have diversified our business by developing a working relationship with the wind generator industry.  In doing so, we have expanded our machine shop capabilities with the addition of several CNC lathes.  We purchased the old Smith International building on Bender Boulevard in 2005 to help us accommodate our customer’s needs.  We also reverse engineer obsolete rig parts and have expanded our inventory to include these items.

I would like to tell my customers “THANK YOU”.  There are many reasons why but one the most important reasons is that without their continued support, we would not be in business today.  During the past thirty one years, I, like so many here in Hobbs, have lived through several boom and bust years.  We dug our heels in for the long haul and survived those tough times because we had loyal customers who continued to support us.  In the best of times, it was those same loyal customers who continued to support us by continuing to bring us their work.

Life in Hobbs, New Mexico is good.
